    The town has an area of detached houses sheltering below a castle, the old fortress of the Baron of Vilafortuny. Located by the sea there is a signal tower, known as the Telégrafo de l’Esquirol, which in times gone by was used to establish communication with other parts of the coast by means of flags and lights. From the harbour, a path follows the Garbí watercourse and leads inland into the town. It is worth visiting the sanctuary of El Camí, with its crypt and an adjoining watchtower.

    The beachs of Cambrils are characterised by a fine golden sand and shallow sea, the perfect combination, which sets these beaches apart from others. They are popular with both tourists and residents alike, as there are also many facilities such as water sports, sunbed hire, showers, first aid, restaurants, kiosks and bars.

    Leisure & Recreation

    The popular Port Aventura theme park is located between Salou and Vila-seca, and is easily reached either by car or public transport. Besides the famous theme park, in the town of La Pineda, is the famous Water Park Aquopolis, which like Port Aventura, is easily accessible, with a variety of public transport links. Visitors can also enjoy activities such as horse riding, tennis, cycling, running and walking.

    Cuisine

    The most famous dish is ‘Romesco’. a type of tomato and herb sauce with onion. Another speciality is rabbit with balls of cod, which is delicious. Local produce and seafood of the area, includes eels, frogs legs, duck dishes, paella, iod, olives, rice dishes, poultry, seafood rabbit, pigs trotters, cod stew with spinach and eggs, noodles, biscuits and sweets. Calçotada which is a dish comprising of barbequed shallots dipped in romesco sauce and served with grilled meats is a fabulous dish full of flavour.

    Climate

    Cambrils is favoured by the typical Mediterranean climate, although the temperatures can be less favourable in the winter than other Spanish Costa destinations. Temperatures range between 10 degrees in the winter and 35 degrees during the summer months. The area enjoys sunny days all throughout the year.

    Pharmacies/chemists take turns in Cambrils operating an after-hours service. Signs are posted outside all pharmacies letting you know when and where the nearest one is that offers an after-hours service.

    Hospitals and clinics

    There are both public and private medical facilities in Cambrils. Many of the larger ones have English speaking staff. The largest public hospital in the area is the Cambrils Hospital de la Proximitat. For free public health care, you need to have the European Health Insurance Card, the E111. Without valid health insurance, private health care can be very expensive in Cambrils. Plan accordingly.

    Opening hours

    Most shops and businesses are open from Monday through to Saturday from 9:30 to 13:30 and from 16:30 to 20:00. Many smaller shops close on Saturday afternoons. The bigger shopping centres and supermarkets are open from 10:00 to 21:00 without closing for lunch. They are also sometimes open on Sundays. During the high season some shops stay open past 22:00.

    Airports Barcelona International Airport, Aeropuerto de Barcelona - BCN, is located 100 km from Cambrils. The bus companyPlana offers a bus service that runs between the airport and Cambrils, travel time is about two hours and costs €15 one way and €27 for a return ticket. A taxi to Cambrils from Barcelona airport costs around €200 and takes about an hour and a half. Reus Airport (REU) is located about 12 km from Cambrils. The village is one of the most important stops on the Cistercian Route. Every year, around the 20th of April, its famed medieval festival is held. Beaches in Cambrils The beaches in and around Cambrils go a long way in explaining the area's popularity as a tourist destination. The beaches are fantastic. There are approximately 10kms of coast. All of it offers fine, golden sand and crystal clear waters. The municipality has nine beaches, with excellent facilities (several of which, are consistently awarded the prestigious Blue flag). The beaches are surrounded by a pleasant and lively promenade, that is the perfect place for walking, cycling, or just to enjoy the stunning views over the Mediterranean. A popular beach with families, the waters are clean, shallow and sheltered. The beach is approximately 600 metres in length and 20 metres wide. It is characterized by fine golden sand. The occupation rate is medium. The urban beach offers all facilities with parking, showers, toilets, lifeguards, disabled access, restaurants, bars and parasol/sunbed hire etc. BEACH Playa de Vilafortuny43850 Cambrils Located west of the city centre, is the beautiful Vilafortuny beach. The Blue Flag beach is 1700 metres in length and approximately 75 metres wide. Occupancy rate is high, it can and does get crowded during the summer months. A promenade runs the breadth of the beach and offers bars, restaurants, shops and various chiringuitos. There are also showers, lifeguards, disabled access and various rental facilities that offer water sports, sunbeds, parasols etc. BEACH Esquirol beach43850 Cambrils Esquirol beach is a big beach, it is 900 metres in length and approximately 50 metres in width. The Blue Flag beach is characterized by its clean waters and facilities. Occupancy levels are classified as medium. It offers all facilities with two beach bars, restaurants, showers, toilets, disabled access, life guards, sunbed, parasol and pedalo rentals. There is also a windsurf school on the western end of the beach. BEACH El Cavet beach43850 Cambrils El Cavet beach is located directly opposite a pine grove and sits just east of the centre of Cambrils. It is one of the most popular beaches with local residents. It is approximately 500 metres long and about 25 wide. The waters are exceptionally clear and calm. There are a number of religious festivals and annual events, that usually feature plenty of music, dancing, fireworks and the delicious local cuisine. Here are some of our favourites. Places of interest FESTIVAL The Three KingsPlaza del Ayuntamiento, Cambrils The traditional three Kings parade takes place yearly on the 5th of January. It is always a big hit with the children. The three Kings travel through the centre of Cambrils on a procession of floats, with their favourite cartoon characters, all hurling sweets as they go past. Numerous restaurants and renowned chefs take part in the week long seafood celebration. It honours the 'Galera,' a large type of lobster that is popular in the area. FESTIVAL Festival van Sant PerePuerto de Cambrils, Cambrils A week long festival that takes in late June, early July. The festivities are in honour of Sant Pere, the patron Sant of fishermen. There are plenty of activities (most with a nautical theme) including concerts, outdoor discos, lectures, exhibitions and workshops. Fun to be had by all the family. FESTIVAL Mare de Deù del CarmeC. de Pau Casals, 14, Cambrils A mid summer event that takes in July every year. Music, traditional Sardana dancing and plenty of activities for children. The festival is celebrated across the whole of Cambrils, but in particular, on the local beaches and in the San Pere church, on the main square. FESTIVAL Nit del foc de Cambrils The Nit del Foc (can be translated as the night of fire) it takes place in early September. Fireworks, bonfires, plenty of fancy dress and tradition. Celebrations carry on throughout the night. Not to be missed. FESTIVAL Fiesta Mare de Deu del CamíCambrils On the 8th of September, the “Mare de Déu del Camí” (Our lady of the Road) is celebrated. The festival dates back to the 13th century. Traditional human towers, the 'Els Castellers,' a giants parade, concerts and fireworks are all part of the celebrations.
